Maximo iP-HS3 breaks again

Back in June I had a problem with my Maximo headset I purchased in January (see here). It seems these things have a 5-6 month use cycle, as just today I noticed the same thing that happened in June happened now: the glue separated and the wires in the earpiece are exposed again.

Let’s see how long it takes Maximo Support to get me a new pair this time …

Edit: November 8 2011

So this time it was a much quicker, thought somewhat odd process. Their support replied back, requesting that I cut the headphone wire 2 inches below the earbuds and attach a picture of the cut and accessories next to a ruler showing that I had “complied with their request”. Ok. I replied with a smart ass comment about the ruler being back near the ENIAC and the abacus, which they humored me with and took in stride.

All in all, I sent the e-mail on a Thursday, and because I had already done a return it was much quicker. I received the replacements on the following Wednesday in the mail.

Testing Maximo Products customer support

Earlier this year I jumped on a Groupon deal for what was basically $35 off at http://www.maximoproducts.com, makers of relatively good quality headsets for blackberries and whatnot. I’ve been happily using the headset until today, when the glue gave way and the headset separated into two pieces (picture attached). Below is the message I sent at 12:06PM EST to support@maximoproducts.com for a replacement. This blog entry will document my experience. :)

Hello,

On January 21st I purchased an iP-HS3 headset. I have been happily using the product and recommending it to others, until today, when I went to remove one of the earpieces from my ear and the glue gave way, causing one piece of the left side to separate and expose the internals. I have attached a picture to illustrate my issue. I was not placing undue stress on the headset, simply removing it from my ear.

I have reviewed your warranty information on your website and believe my situation qualifies for a replacement product. I would like information on how to receive a replacement of the same product.

Thank you,
Matt Moldvan.

Update (6/7/11):

Maximo support told me over the phone that they are very busy, and may take a week to respond to my RMA requests. But, according to their automated message I should receive a response within two business days. My response is below.

Hello,

I haven't heard anything regarding this RMA yet ... I heard you guys are backed up with RMA requests so it may take up to a week, but the e-mail below says to e-mail if I haven't heard within two business days (today).

May I have a status?

Thanks,
Matt.

Getting a bit frustrated with only using one half of my headset …

Update (6/10/11):

Things aren’t looking so good at the moment … they are pretty busy and the autoresponse said to check in if I haven’t heard within two business days. I received a reply to the above message stating they were trying to fix the autoresponse (which isn’t that difficult actually). Still haven’t heard about the status of the RMA … >:|

Update (6/17/11):

10 days and no response … this is getting frustrating.

It’s not technique — it’s what you have to say.

I got the mumps. They threw me in a crib so I wouldn’t roll out onto the floor. And there’s a big bay window in my house, and that window stayed perfectly still until that train started to chug. At a certain speed, I could reach up and feel the pane, and that glass pane would vibrate. I said, Doggone, there’s got to be a reason for this. So I go to the kindergarten teacher, and she takes me to the science teacher, and the science teacher takes me to the library and reads it off to me — “This is called resonance.” That was the beginning.

The audience, they’re not professionals. They just love music. It isn’t necessary to play over their heads to be admired.

You can’t go to the store and buy a good ear and rhythm.

I got out of the car and there was a knife in my neck. The guy says, “Don’t move.” And the drummer got out of the car, and he got a gun in his head. This was my entrance to the South Side of Chicago. But it was necessary, because I wanted to play jazz.

When rock came in, people didn’t know what to do. Even Sinatra, he didn’t know what to do. The music was changing. And it’s changing now.

Last time I saw Count Basie, he was in a wheelchair. They wheeled him up onto the stage, he sits down at the piano, and he gives the downbeat, and that band played like they were in heaven. And right in the middle, the band cuts. He had to take one hand and put the other on it, and he comes down with one note. And it was the greatest note I ever heard in my life.

I gave up the guitar in 1965. Didn’t want to see a guitar. I’d go out and get drunk. When I came out of the heart surgery, the doc said, “Promise me you’ll work hard.” I said, “I thought working hard is what got me here.” He said, “No, working is what will keep you alive.”

There are times when you want to go where you used to go and you can’t go there. So I’m back to Count Basie lifting his hand. And I find you can stop that show with one note just like you can with a hundred.

I better go play now.

DEMF and Detroit

DEMF to me is not just a music festival, it’s a celebration of the end of the harsh winters we have here in Michigan. It’s also a time for people from all over the world with similar interests in electronic music to get together, put all differences aside and just have a great time. From past years at DEMF, I can honestly say it’s the best time of the year in the D. I’m definitely excited. No lineup has been announced as far as I can tell, but as soon as it is I’ll post it up here.

Akon decides it’s cool to beat up little kids and women

Wow he is tough! First he backhands a woman, then throws a little kid off stage randomly. At least he took his jewelry and shirt off as a courtesy before throwing the 15 year old. Now that’s chivalry!

And on that note … it’s Peanut Butter Jelly time. :D

songs to learn how to play … now that i have a guitar

This list will grow, for sure …

pantera/black sabbath – planet caravan

Searching for a good web radio API – Jango, Pandora, etc

So…I just loaded up Jango.com after the recent hoopla about it. At first I wasn’t too impressed, there was no Black Sun Empire. But, I’m pretty impressed that the next song that played after an Aphrodite song was Adam F – Circles. This is one of my favorite songs by him …

That leads me to thinking about a project I’ve wanted to work on for a long time: areacodemusic.com. The first one of these sites (Pandora.com, last.fm, Jango.com, whatever) that releases a good web developer API has my heart. Not that I get a ton of visitors, but I’ll throw this out there: are there any of these new-wave social web radio sites that have a good API?
